Sixth Form College
Greenfields Sixth Form College covers the equivalent of Year Groups
12 to 13 in the English state school system. The age range of students
in this section of the school is normally 16 to 18.
Greenfields Sixth Form is the last stepping stone to the outside
world. For this reason these vital two years are often the most
rewarding and challenging of a students time at school: rewarding
because students are channelling their efforts into the areas of
their particular interest, and challenging, because they wish to
achieve the best possible results.
Students are taught in tutorials and small groups. There is a high
level of pastoral involvement in the group and discussions on a
vast array of topics. The curriculum is very flexible, allowing
A Level students to add extra GCSEs if they wish.
When it is time for our students to leave us they are confident
of their ability to make an impact for the better in whatever area
of life they have chosen. Greenfields graduates consistently excel
in their chosen field or profession. The successful study disciplines
and methods they have learnt and used at school are taken with them
into further education, their professions and adulthood. Sixth Formers
become fully independent learners and shining examples of what can
be achieved with Study Technology.
What is it like to be in the Sixth Form?
From a Sixth Former:
"The Sixth Form is a real bridge to the outside world. Once
you become an S6 member, you really feel that in one way you are
no longer an ordinary student. Your timetable and your studies
are much more under your own control and you are expected to,
and are able to, take responsibility like an adult. In another
sense, though, you are able to be much more a student because
your life is centred around study.
"The S6 environment at Greenfields is very relaxed and yet
very study-oriented, much more like a university than a school.
The College space is open and friendly and easy to study in. Interesting
and exciting discussions about life and what it is like after
school arise naturally. Tutors with a wealth of education, training
and experience are always on hand to answer a wide range of questions
about life as it really is. Expert career advice is also readily
available.
"A Level study requires far more intensive discipline than
at any point in previous years.
"Sometimes a Sixth Form student does more homework in one
night than he or she would have done before in a week! But what's
really great is that it seems easier because we are all working
at similar levels of intensity and having a great time doing it.
That agreement helps you to do it and to do it to a much higher
quality than you would have thought possible earlier."
