| Ethics
& Moral Standards
Greenfields maintains a very high sense of ethics1
and moral2 standards throughout the school,
based on Mr. L. Ron Hubbard's simple, direct and straightforward
guide to making good choices The Way to Happiness® booklet.
In the Lower School children are guided through activities that
help them through the various precepts explained in The Way to
Happiness booklet, and in the Senior School the rules are based
on the same code, which is based on common sense.
Bullying, drugs and any kind of crime are not tolerated. Greenfields
has a specially trained Ethics Officer specifically to deal with
any behavioural difficulties which cannot be resolved in the classroom.
Most problems of this kind are sorted out by appealing to the student's
reason and by having the student make amends for any damage done.
At all points the student's understanding of and cooperation with
any system of rules and morals are consulted so that violations
of rules are in practice quite rare. This stems largely from the
adoption of methods of study that appeal to students' engagement
with learning and so avoid any behavioural problems arising from
lack of understanding of subjects themselves.

L. Ron Hubbard observed that the common dictionary definitions
for the words "ethics" and "morals" were confused,
the definitions of each referring to the other. Having made the
observation and having the benefit of extensive study and observation
in the area, he provided these definitions:
1. Ethics. Ethics actually consists
of rationality toward the highest level of survival for the individual,
the future race, the group, Mankind and the other [areas of life]
taken up collectively.
2. Morals. are a code of good conduct
laid down out of the experience of the race to serve as a uniform
yardstick for the conduct of individuals and groups."
